      August 7, 1935 - September 26, 2015
Madalyn l. Kester, 80, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015, surrounded and lovingly cared for by her children, grandchildren, brother-in-law and his wife, and all her extended family and friends. Madalyn's last month of life was filled with love, laughter and tears as she was visited by her loved ones to celebrate her life and to say their final farewells.
Madalyn was born in Fruita, CO, on August 7, 1935, the daughter of Leda Helen (Cato) Smith and Max Hayden Smith. Madalyn was the third of five children. Her siblings were LeRoy Smith, Norma Behrman, Maxine Hughes (deceased) and Patsy Newton. She graduated from Fruita Union High School where she was head girl and a cheerleader.
Madalyn married her childhood sweetheart, John "Jack" Kester, on August 7, 1954. Jack and Madalyn made their home in Fruita, CO, after Jack finished his college education in Boulder, CO, and then moved to Grand Junction in 1968.
Madalyn and Jack were blessed with three children, Karen (Mike) Engler, Patty Kester, and John (Suzie) Kester; eight grandchildren, Michael and Laura Engler, Savannah and Dillon Marshall, J.C., Daphne, Tommy and Tessa Kester, and two great-grandsons, Elijah Adams and Harrison Engler. Madalyn cherished her family, and she made sure they all knew how much they were loved.
Madalyn worked for Jack's parents at the Uintah Movie Theater in Fruita during her high school years and later she worked as a dental assistant, telephone operator, and finally as a nurse for Dr. Leslie Kareus until her retirement in 1989. After retirement she and her husband became snowbirds and traveled to Arizona and Texas for the cold winter months.
Madalyn was incredibly energetic and she used all that energy cooking, baking, and canning. Painting became a favorite pastime and her walls were decorated with all her artwork. Her home was filled with beautiful plants and her yard was adorned with flowers. All her energy, kindness and nurturing were the ideal blend for the wonderful wife, mother, friend, and grandmother that she was.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, Jack Kester, on May 7, 2015. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
Madalyn requested that there would be no funeral service.
